Interlink Electronics will, in turn, have access to UEI's comprehensive universal database for its new Interactive Remote Controls.
The emergence of living-room computing products such as Gateway's new Destination computers and SONY's VisionTouch system, and the development of interactive cable TV and home internet access products, are redefining consumer electronics and creating an immediate need for low-cost, mouse-capable remote controls. Traditional mouse solutions, however, such as the OEM trackball, are awkward and too easily contaminated for use in home remote controls.
"With Interlink Electronics' mouse control code incorporated into our universal remote product line, UEI is able to provide our OEMs with remote control solutions that are ready for internet and interactive computer control applications," said David Gabrielsen, president and CEO of Universal Electronics. He continued, "Interlink's cursor control technology provides our OEM customers with yet another option to assist them in addressing a world of ever- increasing electronics device convergence."
"By making VersaPoint `mouse' technology immediately available to UEI's international customer base of consumer electronics and computer manufacturers, this agreement is helping to set a standard for emerging interactive remote control applications," said E. Michael Thoben III, chairman, president and CEO, Interlink Electronics.
"It also provides our customers access to UEI's comprehensive code library, allowing our hand-held remote solutions to simultaneously control a wide variety of home electronics, PC, set-top-box, and internet access devices."
