NSW: Paraplegic rugby player sues Rugby Union for damages

SYDNEY, Feb 20 AAP - An action for damages by a man paralysed during a rugby uniongame could have ramifications for all dangerous sports, a judge said today.

Peter Joseph Haylen, 40, an engineer from Northbridge in Sydney, is claiming the NSWRugby Union and Sydney University failed in their duty of care to ensure he was safe whileplaying hooker in a match 20 years ago.

A preliminary hearing in the NSW Supreme Court was told Mr Haylen was playing secondgrade for Sydney University against St George on April 17, 1982 in Sydney's Lugarno whenthe scrum he was in collapsed, pinning his hands …
