Vic: Rooftop clue to hotel spray emergency

MELBOURNE, Jan 17 AAP - A person was seen lurking on the roof of a South Melbourne
hotel last night before hundreds of patrons at the Friday night venue were sprayed with
a mystery irritant.

The release of the unknown material, possibly capsicum spray or mace, could have caused
panic among the patrons, resulting in very serious injuries in the crowded Wayside Hotel,
police and ambulance spokesmen said today as they condemned the act.

About 300 people were evacuated after the spray was released into the City Road …
