Tas: Easter road crash claims life of promising rower

MELBOURNE, April 22 AAP - A promising young rower and an elderly motorcyclist diedin separate accidents on Tasmanian roads over the Easter period.

Tasmanian oarswoman Edwina Titmus was killed in a collision with a car towing a caravanon Sheffield Main Road, Spreyton, about 1pm (AEST) on Saturday.

The accident happened about six kilometres south of her parents' Devonport home.

Ms Titmus, 20, was due to compete in the Australian Rowing Championships at Lake Barringtonyesterday for her new club Melbourne University.

A minute's silence was held before yesterday's event to honour her.

Police are seeking witnesses to the accident, which also injured two adults and threechildren in a Toyota Landcruiser.

On Sunday, a 72-year-old motorcyclist died in a collision with a Ford Sedan on theBass Highway at Parramatta Creek, in the state's north, about 3.20pm (AEST).

The motorcyclist, whose name was not released, was thrown from his bike and later diedat the Latrobe Community Hospital.
